Can you hear that? The wildflowers are calling me...

Wildflower etiquette

  • Tread lightly. If you can, step around the flowers, not on them.
  • I often take along a large towel to sit or lay on. It helps keep me out of the dirt and my butt off the flowers!
  • Only take pictures. Flowers dug from their habitat rarely survive transplant. Look for a nursery that specializes in natives to use in your own landscape.
  • It is illegal to pick rare or endangered species. Check with local BLM or Forest Service authorities for permit requirements and how to legally collect native species.

Flora in the spotlight

Check out my wildflower photographs in The Nature of Bend, a guidebook on Central Oregon plants and animals by LeeAnn Kriegh. My baby great horned owl and a purple aster grace the front cover! Yahoo!!

Most of my images are in the wildflower section, but I also have a few other photos sprinkled in chapters throughout the book.

The book is available in bookstores and online.

April 2020: A few of my images also made the pages of Kriegh's second guidebook "The Nature of Portland."

Wildflower image featured in deck of cards

Picture
My image of a sagebrush (or green banded) mariposa lily (calochortus macrocarpus) is printed on the 2 of diamonds in a deck of playing cards depicting northwest wildflowers!
The cards are available through Adventure Publications.
I shot this particular flower on a rainy-day drive near Pendleton, Oregon.
